Measuring Guide for Bespoke 10mm Glass Panels

Before we manufacture your custom panels, we will email you a CAD drawing with exact sizes and dimensions for your confirmation. Rest assured, all our glass is BS EN 12150 and BS EN 12600 certified for safety and quality.

Part 1: Preparation & Measurement

1. Choose Your Timber Stair Parts: Select your newel posts and caps. Decide whether you prefer slotted or bracketed handrails and baserails.
2. Measure the Handrail Length: Measure the total distance between your newel posts. See Fig-1 Example: 3200mm
3. Measure the Handrail Height: Measure from the top of the string (the bottom of the baserail) to the very top edge of the handrail. See Fig-1 Example: 900mm
4. Determine the Pitch Angle: Using a digital angle protractor, measure the angle from the vertical newel post to the pitch line of the stairs in degrees. See Fig-2

Part 2: Calculating Panel Widths

To find out exactly how wide your glass panels need to be, you can use the math formula below, or simply plug your numbers into our quick calculator!

1. Calculate the Gaps Manually: Always allow a 20mm gap between each panel, as well as between the panels and the newel posts.
   • Formula: (Number of Panels + 1) = Number of Gaps
   • Example: 3 panels require 4 gaps. 4 gaps × 20mm = 80mm total gap space.
2. Calculate the Panel Length Manually: Subtract the total gap space from your handrail length, then divide by your panel count.
   • Example: 3200mm (Handrail) - 80mm (Gaps) = 3120mm.
   • 3120mm ÷ 3 panels = 1040mm per panel.

Part 3: Placing Your Order

1. Submit Your Measurements: Order directly online or email us your sizes, and we will be happy to provide a custom quote.
2. Delivery: Please allow approximately 2 weeks for delivery, as your bespoke glass panels are made to order.
