Measuring Guide & Next Steps
Before we manufacture your custom panels, we will email you a CAD drawing with exact sizes and dimensions for your confirmation. All our glass is BS EN 12150 and BS EN 12600 certified for safety and quality.
Step 1: Preparation & Measurement
- Choose Your Timber Stair Parts: Select your newel posts, and decide whether you prefer slotted (embedded) or bracketed (clamped) rails.
- Measure the Handrail Length: For stair (rake) panels, measure the diagonal distance along the angle between your newel posts (Example: 3200mm, see Fig-1). For flat (landing) panels, measure the total horizontal distance (Example: 2000mm, see Fig-3).
- Measure the System Height: Measure from the top of the string (the bottom of the baserail) to the very top edge of the handrail. Example: 900mm (See Fig-1)
- Determine the Internal Rake Angle: Using a digital angle protractor, measure the internal angle between the vertical drop and the pitch line of the stairs (enter 0° for level landings). (See Fig-1 & 3)
How Our Smart Calculator Works:
- Manufacturing Size Limits: Flat panels (0° pitch) can be between 50mm and 2400mm long. Rake panels (angled) must be between 150mm and 1824mm long.
- Smart Handrail Profiling: Because our handrails have different physical depths, the calculator automatically adjusts the required glass height based on the exact profile you select.
- Embedded Glass Logic: If you select "Embedded", the tool automatically adds the exact hidden glass height needed to slide perfectly into our 15mm baserail and 25mm handrail grooves.
- Clamped Glass Logic: If you select "Clamped", the tool mathematically deducts the exact space needed to leave a precise 20mm clearance gap between the glass edge and the timber.
- Angle Compensation: The tool uses trigonometry to adjust slot depths and clamp clearances based on the pitch of your stairs, ensuring a perfect fit every time.
- Calculating Gaps Manually: The tool always leaves a default gap between each panel and the newel posts. E.g., 3 panels require 4 gaps. 4 gaps × 20mm = 80mm total gap space deducted from the handrail length.
